An Evening of African Culture, Joy, and Purpose
A Night of African Splendor is Gate of Hope’s annual celebration fundraiser — an evening of vibrant African food, live music, and cultural performances that brings our community together to honor the remarkable strength of East African families making Louisville home.
This year’s theme, Celebrating God’s Goodness, is a reflection on 25 years of ministry, healing, and transformation. It’s an evening to celebrate what happens when a community chooses to show up for its neighbors — and to raise the critical funds that make it possible to keep going.
Join us on April 23rd, 2026.
6:00–8:00 PM | Doors open at 5:30 PM
City Place | 112 South 1st Avenue, LaGrange, KY 40031
Experience the vibrant traditions of East Africa through live cultural dance performances, authentic cuisine prepared from recipes passed down through generations, and powerful testimonials from lives that have been transformed through hope and community. Come ready for an evening filled with warmth, joy, and the collective spirit of people who believe deeply in this work — and in each other.
The event is free to attend. No tickets, no price of admission. We simply invite you to come, experience the beauty and resilience of this community, and give what you’re able. This year’s fundraising goal is $100,000.

Your Gift Changes Real Lives
Every dollar raised at A Night of African Splendor goes directly to these programs. Here’s what that looks like.
Gosheni Initiative
The Healing Place.
In Southwest Louisville, something extraordinary is happening. East African refugees — many carrying years of displacement and trauma — are working the land, growing food, and finding peace. Gosheni is a farm, a therapy space, and a community hub all at once. Elderly participants who came in depressed and isolated leave with purpose. Ten senior farmers lead their neighbors.
Your gift funds: trauma recovery programming, farming tools, food security for 68 community plots, and growing season expansion.
Humura Initiative
Be Comforted. Be at Peace.
Humura exists for the moments no one talks about — when the weight of displacement, violence, or loss becomes too heavy to carry alone. Through culturally sensitive counseling and community support, Humura walks alongside survivors. In 2025, our team walked with 60 women facing crisis. They came in broken. They left with safety, stability, and a support network.
Your gift funds: trauma counseling, case management, support groups, and access to mental health care.
Tabara Initiative
Reached, Rescued, Restored.
In 2021, we learned that 27 underage East African girls had been sexually trafficked in Louisville since 2017 — the youngest just 11 years old. Today, Tabara is in public schools across Louisville, equipping young women with knowledge and skills to protect themselves and intervening in cases of exploitation.
Your gift funds: school-based prevention programs, mentorship, life skills training, and crisis response.
These programs run because of people who choose to show up — in person and with a gift. Every dollar raised on April 23 goes directly to this work.
Real People. Real Change.
When you give to Gate of Hope, you’re not writing a check into a void. You’re stepping into the story of a real family rebuilding their lives, right here in Louisville. Every dollar funds transformation that is holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally rooted.
Your sponsorship enables…
- ✦ The love of Christ to be shared and lives transformed through Him.
- ✦ A refugee mother to receive the counseling she needs and find the strength to rebuild after trauma.
- ✦ A teenage girl to be protected from exploitation through the power of mentorship.
- ✦ An elderly immigrant to have access to fresh food through a community garden plot.
- ✦ A family navigating language barriers to find belonging and feel at home in their community.
- ✦ A community to heal — together, holistically, and with dignity.
“We equip individuals and families with the support and tools needed to restore dignity and build stable, fulfilling, self-sufficient lives.”

Voices from Our Community
“Before joining the farm, I was depressed and lonely. I was always sick in my body and no medicine worked. After I started farming, I became alive again. Today I laugh with my family and I am not sick anymore.”
— J.K., Gosheni Farmer
“Gate of Hope has allowed me and my children to adapt and love our new home in America. It has helped us to succeed. When we first came, we felt like orphans — everything was different and we did not know the language nor did we have the resources and skills necessary to live here. Gate of Hope changed it all.”
— M.A., Single Mother
