Gate of Hope Ministries International concentrates its activities in Rwanda, a country about the size of the state of Maryland, focusing on widows of the genocide, people with HIV/AIDS, orphans, and vulnerable children and their families.
Educate
We identify underprivileged children who live in extreme poverty and pay school fees so they can attend public school. In the last 7 years, 45 children graduated from high school and 3 graduated from college.
Tuition Support
We select children for tuition support based on poverty status. This allows them to attend school, have appropriate school supplies and uniforms for the school year.
Health Insurance
We cover the cost of health insurance cards for the children, who receive tuition support, and their immediate families for the school year. Healthy children are ready to learn.
community Seminars
We train community leaders in good governance, covering topics ranging from women and children’s welfare and conflict resolution to public health issues.
ENCOURAGE
We encourage the brokenhearted and provide a skilled listening ear to the traumatized. Counseling is the key to healing.
Women’s Counseling
We offer hope and healing through professional and lay counseling to women who have been traumatized.
Lay Counseling
We provide a yearlong training to 20 lay counselors each year in order to improve access to counseling services. We equip counselors with basic skills to address a variety of needs.
EQUIP
We are committed to helping individuals and families in poverty achieve economic independence. To that end, we facilitate a variety of economic self-sufficiency initiatives in the communities we serve.
Sewing Schools
We help women to build a strong skill set in sewing. Women make and sell products, and earn a living to support themselves and their families.
Farming
We provide seeds and train families in sustainable agriculture, including how to use available land to cultivate nutritious vegetables, chickens and rabbits.
PROTECTIVE WALL
We are supporting the building of a protective wall around a school compound in Rwanda to help provide a safe learning environment for the children.
Micro Lending
We equip women with skills necessary to operate a small business and provide microloans to help launch their businesses, which are diverse and reflect the needs of the community.
