About the Evening
A celebration of hope, resilience, and transformed lives.
A Night of African Splendor is Gate of Hope's annual celebration fundraiser. An evening of vibrant East African food, live music, cultural dance, and stories from the families who make this community what it is.
Gate of Hope Ministries International was founded in 1995 in Rwanda and began operating in Louisville in 2003. For more than two decades we have walked alongside East African refugees and immigrants (our new neighbors) as they rebuild, heal, and put down roots in their new home.
On April 23rd, we gather to celebrate what God has done and to raise the $100,000 that keeps this work going for another year. Come celebrate with us. Come knowing your presence that night supports this community.

The Work Your Gift Fuels
Three programs. One community. A year of ministry ahead.
Every dollar raised on April 23rd goes directly to the programs below.
Gosheni Initiative
The healing place.
That is what they call it.
Many of them were farmers before they were refugees. The land was how they fed their families, how they marked the seasons, how they understood themselves. Today on 19 acres in southwest Louisville, something remarkable is happening.
68 community plots. 10 senior farmers. People who lost nearly everything, growing food, building community, and healing side by side, season after season.
Your Gift Funds
Trauma recovery through sustainable farming, food security for 68 community plots, senior farmer mentorship, and expanded year round growing capacity.
Humura Initiative
Be comforted. Be at peace.
That is Humura.
Every month, women (many who are survivors of domestic violence, trauma, and the upheaval of displacement) come together through Humura. Trauma informed counseling. Peer support. Case management that meets them where they are. Life skills that build toward independence.
In 2025, Humura walked alongside 60 women facing crisis. The results were real. Renewed stability, restored confidence, and for many, the courage to rebuild.
Your Gift Funds
Trauma counseling, case management, peer support groups, and life skills education for 40 women every month.
In Their Words
"Gate of Hope has allowed me and my children to adapt and love our new home in America. When we first came, we felt like orphans. Everything was different and we did not know the language nor did we have the resources and skills necessary to live here. Gate of Hope changed it all."
— M.A., Single Mother
In Their Words
"Before joining the farm, I was depressed and lonely. I was always sick in my body and no medicine worked. After I started farming, I became alive again. Today I laugh with my family and I am not sick anymore."
— J.K., Gosheni Farmer
Tabara Initiative
Reached, rescued, restored.
That is Tabara.
Every week, East African teen girls in Louisville schools walk into a room where someone knows their name, speaks their language, and is genuinely glad they showed up. That room is Tabara.
Tabara operates inside public schools across Louisville, led by trained facilitators who know this community. Life skills. Confidence. The kind of knowledge that keeps a girl safer when no one else is around. And when exploitation is reported, Tabara does not just refer out. It responds.
Your Gift Funds
Weekly mentorship groups in Louisville public schools, life skills and prevention education, and intervention and response in reported cases of exploitation.
