Louisville sets aside one day every fall to give to the organizations working in its own neighborhoods. Gate of Hope is one of them. Every dollar given through this page stays right here, with the East African families who have made this city home.

How the day works
A city wide giving day, run by the Community Foundation of Louisville
Hundreds of Louisville nonprofits take part. Gifts are made on the Community Foundation's site rather than ours, which is why the button on this page sends you somewhere else. Nothing is lost in the handoff. Every dollar given to Gate of Hope through that page comes back to Gate of Hope.

Give for Good is a Louisville giving day, so everything raised on this page stays with the Kentucky work. Gate of Hope has been at it since 1995. What follows is running right now, not waiting on a grant.
Gosheni
The healing place
A working farm in Southwest Louisville. Families grow food they recognize, sell what they don't need, and get their hands back in soil.

Seed and water, and the tools that go into the ground months before anything comes out of it. Rides for growers who have no car.

Young people learning music and worship, and learning how to stand in front of a room and lead it.

Instruments, and a room loud enough to practice in. Adults who show up every week, which turns out to be the expensive part.

The women's circle. Health, motherhood, and the company of women who have stood in the same place.

Why we are still here
Pauline Mukeshimana directs our work in Louisville. She would rather tell you what our program list leaves out.
"Trust is not a program."
People ask me what Gate of Hope does, and I can always give them the list. A farm. A circle of women who meet every week. Young people learning to lead worship. Somebody sitting with a family through the worst month of their life.
The list is true and it is not the answer. What makes any of it work is that we are still here. We were here in 1995 and we are here this year, and most families already know that about us before anybody says it out loud.

That is the thing I want you to understand before you give. Trust is not a program. It gets built by somebody being in the same place, in the right language, for long enough that a person stops bracing. You cannot buy that in a quarter. You can only pay for the years.
So here is what your money does. It pays the interpreter. The ride across town for somebody with no car. The childcare that lets a mother sit in a room and actually hear another woman speak. Seed and water at the farm, months before there is anything to harvest. The hour somebody spends untangling a problem on the phone that should have taken five minutes. None of that photographs well. It is the quietest money we spend and it is the reason the rest of the work stands up at all.
Louisville gives together on Thursday, September 10, 2026. One day. Everything given through that page stays here, with families who have made this city home.
Most of the people who paid for those ordinary things last year never met the families they helped. I thank God for them anyway.

Fundraising captains
The people asking on our behalf
Not everyone raising money for Gate of Hope this year works here. Some are church friends. Some are parents from the Humura circle. Some volunteered once, kept showing up, and eventually asked what else they could do. A captain takes the ask to their own people, and their own people listen in a way strangers never will. Their names belong on this page.
