  • Some news, straight from Mama Pauline.

This is the first episode of From the Gate, a short update where our Programs Director Dr. Pauline Mukeshimana tells you what has been happening across Gate of Hope.

Humura is a Kinyarwanda word. It means be comforted. Be at peace.

Counseling and community are the heart of Humura, and so are the educational workshops. This one was about cancer awareness, with the conversation centered on breast cancer. The room filled with questions. Women learned what to watch for. And when one woman realized she needed someone to keep going with her, Gate of Hope stayed with her until she was connected to the care she needed.

That is what Mama Pauline means when she says thank you. None of it happens on its own. It happens because you pray, you give, and you show up.

Watch her tell it in her own words.

  • Curious how Give for Good Louisville actually works?

On September 10, the whole city gives together in one coordinated day. Your gift to Gate of Hope goes straight to welcoming new neighbors, and giving alongside thousands of others makes each gift go further.

We will walk you through exactly how and when to give as the day gets closer. For now, save the date and follow along.

  • Every month, a small group of people does something quietly powerful. They give.

Not once, but again and again. Their steady gifts are what let a family new to Louisville count on a warm welcome, not just this week, but next month and the one after that.

That is what Hearts of Hope is. One hundred people, believing in welcome enough to make it dependable.

  • “Those moments may seem small, but to me, they were everything. They were the moments that helped me realize I wasn’t just surviving anymore, I was beginning to belong.”
— P. L., a Gate of Hope new neighbor

Belonging doesn’t arrive all at once. It’s built in small moments: someone who shows up, checks in, and reminds you that you’re not doing this alone. That’s the work your support makes possible.

One hundred monthly hearts keeps that door open. Right now a new neighbor is arriving in Louisville searching for where they belong. Be one of the hundred who says: you’re already home here.

  • There is something steady about a Friday at the Farm Stand.

Neighbors come by for tomatoes and greens. Kids point at the crates. Someone always leaves with a little more than they planned. This is what food security looks like up close. Not a statistic, but a table where everyone is welcome.

Every Friday through the season we are set up from 12 to 3 at 3309 Lees Lane in Shively.

Come find your Friday spot this week.

Because steady support is what lets us plan. When our community rallies on Give for Good Louisville, it tells a family that has just arrived that Louisville was ready for them. It funds the counseling room, the mentorship hour, the seed that becomes a harvest.

Gate of Hope has been welcoming new neighbors in Louisville since 2003. September 10 is a chance for the whole city to be part of that welcome.

Follow along this month so you are ready when the day comes.
